The ‘Wage Slave’ or Shachiku is a tongue-in cheek reference to the hard done by Japanese workers who live to work for their company rather than working to live for themselves. It’s become a hugely popular motif in Japanese culture, especially amongst younger workers at the bottom of the corporate ladder.
